2023TomsuOU.jpg

The Tomsu family and The Bowling Store congratulate Darin Galbraith, of Reasnor, IA, and Darrin Bloomquist, of Cedar Rapids, IA, on their victory today in the special 25th edition of the Joe Tomsu Memorial Over/Under Scratch Doubles Tournament.  Team Dar(r)in defeated Tyler Masterson and his partner, previous champion Julius Mickel, who had made it through four grueling rounds to reach the finals.  The championship prize was worth a very nice, and appropriate, $2,525 to each competitor.

Thank you to everyone who competed in the tournament and to Mockingbird Lanes for doing such a nice job of playing host.  It was a great day!

Victor Cortez Captures Repeat Iron Man Title

IronManWinners2023.jpg

From left to right: Kevin Watts, tournament host, Champion Victor Cortez, Jay Watts, Ben Vanness, and Anthony Dodge

Victor Cortez, of Omaha, NE,  put on a terrific performance as he led the field of 65 bowlers for most of the day in the 2023 Harold Watts Memorial Iron Man Tournament contested Sunday, June 11th, at Mockingbird Lanes in Omaha.

The Iron Man is a unique and grueling tournament as it requires the bowlers to complete 16 games on very different oil patterns.  The morning session featured 8 games on the 45-foot Kegel Route 66 pattern and then was followed by 8 games on the challenging 35-foot Kegel Boardwalk pattern.  As has been the case in previous editions of the event, the short pattern was not for the meek as scores plummeted.  Full results of the event, including side action, can be viewed on the "TournamentResults" page of this website.

The Bowling Store congratulates Victor on the successful defense of his 2022 title.
